Description
Residential Services operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.
SUMMARY: The Porter is responsible for the maintenance and general cleanliness of the facility. Assumes duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor on duty.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring that the facility is always audit and inspection-ready. Follow up on all work orders.
- Responsible for general upkeep of the building which includes but is not limited to making sure that all common areas are in a clean and orderly state and the landscaping is upkept.
- Assist all vendors performing tasks in the building (exterminator, AC repair / maintenance company, rotor rooter, boiler repair and all other service vendors).
- Maintain a detailed understanding of the overall property and resident-based facility.
- Inspect the building and property daily; perform routine preventative maintenance and immediately address safety issues.
- Maintain the outside perimeter of the building. Including power washing the sidewalk, removal of snow and ice and keeping the sidewalks clean and safe during inclement weather. Removing graffiti from the building.
- Keep and maintain accurate records as required by regulation or company operating protocols. General care of grounds (such as ensuring the walkways are safe in all weather conditions).
- Assist in cleaning/upkeeping resident areas (includes lifting, remove, and wash the shower curtains two times a week and carrying furniture, kitchen appliances, etc.).
- Assist facility manager in on-site projects, including but not limited to: Stripping and waxing the floors, painting/ plastering, repairing, changing light bulbs, unclogging toilets and all other duties required for the general upkeep of the facility.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Able to stand and exert fast paced mobility for entire shift.
- Good sense of balance, able to lift, bend, kneel, stoop and wipe.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly.
- Able to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
- Assist with garbage removal (Adhering to all NYC (DSNY) sanitation guidelines (tying up boxes, sorting garbage, recycling, wrapping mattresses/ furniture for disposals, maintaining the onsite garbage room).
- Assist with receiving deliveries.
- Assist with extermination as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated experience working in building maintenance.

Salary : $20
