Description

CFH is seeking a Residence Worker /Food Service Worker for its 91 East Broadway Safe Haven. The Safe Haven operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City. Employees in this position will prepare, heat and serve food as assigned in accordance with federal, state and local health regulations and safety codes. Individuals in this position also must have crucial customer service and effective communication skills to provide quality dining services. Essential duties also includes working with the clients to ensure that all of their basic needs are met. Help with pack ups of exited clients. Also responsible to wash program linen.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the safety and security of all residents in the facility through staff-specific posts, security rounds of the facility, enforcing facility rules and regulations for clients and communicating to supervisory personnel all incidents, situations or conditions which might affect the safety and security of clients and staff or the orderly operation of the facility.
  • Provide timely and effective responses to client emergencies, including appropriate and effective response to physical or verbal altercations between clients, effective interventions in medical emergencies.
  • Administer operational procedures to ensure access control, reception fire patrol, surveillance, safety, and documentation of compliance with government regulations. These include verifying arrival and departure of clients from the premises, maintaining an active client/bed count in the facility, maintaining a vehicle-use log, generating curfew reports/violations/incident reports, and answering the switchboard.
  • Distribute and control the inventory client supplies, including the distribution of meals on all shifts.
  • Prepare, heat and serve nutritious meals.
  • Ensures that food services meet health regulations and safety codes.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the dining area: including, cleaning up after all meals.
  • Understands weights and measures as it relates to portion control.
  • Maintain the service and preparation areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Wash program linen.
  • Receive all incoming food deliveries, maintain the cleanliness and order of all food storage areas. Attend on-going training for all food service staff, this includes required trainings set forth from DOH and DHS.
  • Participate in training and staff-development activities to acquire and maintain both the interpersonal and operational skills necessary for successful job performance.
  • Register new clients, orient them to the facility, and ensure that all mandated documentation is completed and distributed appropriately.
  • Facilitate vacancy control through liaison with funding agencies to accept referrals other than during business hours.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff within an interdisciplinary context to contribute to the achievement of facility goals and objectives.
  • Perform hourly facility runs to:
    • Resident areas are being maintained, at all times.
    • Ensure all staff are in their assigned locations/posts.
    • Monitor recreational rooms, laundry rooms and cafeteria to ensure all residents are adhering to schedules and are in proper locations.
  • Perform daily inspections of all resident units.
  • Assist in medication calls as required and in compliance with all rules and regulations.
  • Perform daily pack ups and logging of the property belonging to AWOL residents.
  • Store and remove resident property from the client storage area.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Escort clients to appointments such as Public Assistance, Social Security, and Medical etc.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisory staff.
  • SUMMARY: Residential Services operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, we have reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits. The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City. The Case Manager provides direct case management services while engaging persons experiencing homelessness with appropriate concern for their social, mental health, substance abuse, and medical concerns to promote client stability and empower them to reach their fullest potential.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes intakes for new clients and orients them to the program and shelter rules/regulations.
  • Review logbooks at the start of each shift to ensure that all clients’ follow-ups are conducted as required.
  • Participates as part of a team and regularly collaborates with multidisciplinary staff to monitor clients’ progress.
  • Develops a comprehensive psychosocial assessment to fully identify and address the client’s needs.
  • Collaborates with internal staff to monitor clients’ medication compliance and address episodes of non-adherence.
  • Establishes an individualized intervention/treatment plan or strategy to promote identified goals
  • Advocates for individual clients around entitlements and services
  • Provides case management, including individual counseling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, advocacy, psychoeducation, coordination of services, and appropriate follow-up on all referrals.
  • Uses motivational interviewing and seeks safety modalities to counsel clients to improve overall effectiveness.
  • Encourages and provides ongoing support so that each client might assume an active role in his or her own treatment plan to the maximum extent possible
  • Facilitates clinical, educational, supportive and/or recreation groups to address problem areas that clients experience in working towards independent living.
  • Maintains required documentation in case records, in written and computer database (SCIMS, AWARDS) and updates client records in accordance with governmental and agency policy
  • Completes Housing applications (both written, and computer-generated) for clients based on their individual needs and functioning
  • Facilitates and assists with clients' transfers into independent living.
  • Participates in weekly case conferences with both internal departments and external providers
  • Participates in regular supervision, team meetings, case conferences and staff training.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule including evening and weekend shifts.
  • Performs other duties as it relates to case management.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational and Experience requirements:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent (required).
  • Must have a valid NYC DOHMH Food protection Certificate or other NYC DOHMH approved food handling certificate.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • AED/CPR Certification (or willingness to take course).
  • Some Computer skills.
  • Experience with Homelessness or special needs population preferred.
