What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Practical Nurse position at Care Options for Kids?
About Us
Care Options for Kids is a company that provides one-on-one care in the home, offering a unique approach to patient care. Unlike traditional hospital settings, our model prioritizes self-sufficiency and autonomy for our caregivers.
We value the clinical knowledge and expertise of our nurses, recognizing the importance of the deep relationships they establish with their clients and their families. Our Director of Nursing is available 24/7 to provide support and guidance whenever needed.
A Day in the Life of a Care Options for Kids Nurse
Each day begins with communication with the care team, whether it's a parent, guardian, or relief nurse. We also utilize our electronic health record (EHR) platform to access comprehensive client information at any time.
The client greets the nurse warmly, despite being non-verbal, and initiates physical affection. Following the disconnection of her ventilator, which is only required at night, breakfast and a gentle sponge bath are administered.
The nurse then embarks on a series of activities tailored to the client's interests, such as gazing at clouds, searching for ladybugs, or creating flower crowns. Alternatively, they may set up a living room campout or engage in a book-filled adventure until lunchtime.
Throughout the day, medications are prepared and delivered, along with routine tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube care. The nurse documents these treatments and dosages within our Point of Care platform, allowing for easy note-taking and assessment comparison.
While the client rests in the late afternoon, the nurse completes electronic documentation and communicates with the incoming caregiver before concluding the day.
This role offers an opportunity to develop clinical expertise while significantly impacting the lives of clients and their loved ones every day.
