REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Clinical Supervisor:
Education and Licensure
- California state license (minimum 2 years post-license) in psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy with a graduate degree in psychology, social work, or counseling.
- Clinical Supervision Certification (as required by BBS).
- Valid California driver’s license.
- First Aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years in a behavioral health setting.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal procedures, billing, and documentation.
- Desired: Additional certification in Addiction Counseling and experience in program planning, development, and evaluation.
Knowledge and Skills
- Expertise in evidence-based practices (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, ASAM assessment, TF-CBT, harm reduction models).
- Understanding of substance use, mental health best practices, and cultural competence in diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively with issues like substance abuse, mental health, criminal backgrounds, and economic barriers.
- Desired: Knowledge of San Mateo County Behavioral Health systems and policies.
Background Clearance
- Must pass background checks and not be on active parole or probation.
Essential Functions:
The Licensed Clinical Supervisor (LCS) oversees and supports staff and interns delivering direct services within youth and adult outpatient and residential behavioral health programs in San Mateo County. The LCS ensures compliance with professional standards, licensing, certification, and clinical grant requirements, while promoting culturally proficient and client-centered services.
- Providing individual and group clinical supervision.
- Conducting agency performance appraisals and clinical performance reviews.
- Delivering on-site trainings for staff and interns.
- Managing clinical emergencies and serving as a resource for audits and concerns.
- Assisting in hiring and supervising employees and interns as part of the San Mateo County Leadership Team.
- The LCS also identifies and implements evidence-based practices, ensures program compliance, and contributes to overall program improvement.
