Patient Care Technician
Position Overview:The Patient Care Technician will play a vital role in providing compassionate and efficient patient care at CARE – Clinics for Abortion & Reproductive Excellence. This position involves assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical tasks, including obtaining vital signs, performing ultrasounds, assisting with procedures, and educating patients on reproductive health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain and record accurate patient vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.
- Assist healthcare providers during medical procedures and examinations including aspiration abortions, D&C’s, D&E’s, and induction abortions.
- Room patients, ensuring their comfort and addressing any initial questions or concerns.
- Perform transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds under the guidance of medical professionals after set training period and proof of competency.
- Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Stock examination rooms and maintain adequate supplies for patient care.
- Draw-up medications and prime administration tubing.
- Educate patients about reproductive health, procedures, and post-procedure care.
- Take on-call shifts which may require coming to the Clinic to assist with a procedure outside of Clinic hours.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and efficient clinic operations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to patients' needs and concerns.
Qualifications:
- Required CPR/AED certification, High school diploma or GED
- Required one of the following certifications as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assistant (MA).
- Previous patient care experience, preferably in a clinical or medical setting, with preference given to applicants who have abortion experience, OB/GYN, or L&D.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients.
- Proficiency in performing clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs and assisting with medical procedures.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Sensitivity to patient needs and a dedication to providing patient-centered care.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work effectively within a healthcare team and collaborate with other professionals.
Working Conditions:The Patient Care Technician will primarily work within a clinical environment, interacting directly with patients and collaborating with healthcare professionals. The role may involve standing for extended periods, lifting, and occasional exposure to bodily fluids.
