PURPOSE
Functions include a variety of teaching and managerial tasks to support student academic learning, technical skill advancement and learning the profession of cosmetology and barbering. This position will report to the two full-time Career Academy instructors
IMPORTANT DETAILS
- Work Hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays School Year from 3:10 pm – 6:10 pm
Monday – Friday Summer hours from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
MINIMUM QUALIFACTIONS
This position requires a Workplace Specialist License and Cosmetology Instructor License with the State of Indiana Cosmetology Board. Must pass the TABE test to demonstrate competency with English and Math skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Instructional Delivery
Provide engaging, standards-based instruction to high school students in cosmetology and barbering, ensuring alignment with state standards and industry best practices. - Skill Development
Guide students in developing technical skills in hair cutting, styling, coloring, chemical treatments, barbering techniques, nail care, skincare, and sanitation practices. - Classroom Management & Safety
Maintain a positive, safe, and productive learning environment that adheres to safety and sanitation standards as established by the Indiana Cosmetology Board. - Assessment & Feedback
Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support student growth and skill mastery. - Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate effectively with full-time Career Academy instructors to coordinate lesson plans, student evaluations, and classroom activities, ensuring continuity and consistency in instruction. - Record-Keeping & Compliance
Maintain accurate attendance records, skill checklists, progress reports, and any other required documentation per school and state regulations. - Student Mentorship & Support
Provide mentorship and individualized support to help students develop professionalism, customer service skills, and career readiness in the cosmetology and barbering industries. - Professional Development & Industry Awareness
Stay current with trends, techniques, and regulations in cosmetology and barbering to continuously enhance instructional effectiveness and maintain professional licensing requirements.
