Job Summary:
Provide instruction in all aspects of the barbering and cosmetology pathway. Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment in the barbering and cosmetology industry. Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the career and technical curriculum, as well as, teach employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, and other pertinent employability skills. Prepare students for entry level employment into the barbering and cosmetology industry or for post-secondary study. Assist students to be successful in career and technical education by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and placement records. Assist students in developing their career education plans, and instruct students in resume writing and interview skills. In addition, grow our current advisory board by adding new partners and creating new unique work-based learning experiences between our students and local employers.
Qualifications:
Possess a valid Indiana teaching license for the grade level and/or subject assigned. We can support a qualified candidate to earn the Indiana Workplace Specialist license. Must possess knowledge of effective practices including principles, theories, procedures, and techniques used in lesson plan development and classroom instruction.
- Possess a valid Indiana Workplace Specialist license or be eligible for Workplace Specialist license based upon 3-5 years work experience in the barbering and/or cosmetology Industry.
- This teaching position will require teachers to monitor student progress to reach 1500 clock hours to sit for the state licensure test. Teachers will also work an additional 3-6 evening hours and 4 weeks in summer.
- Experience with the barbering and cosmetology industry including but not limited to:
- Basic concepts, preparation to pass the state licensure exam
- Basic barbering and cosmetology technical skills
- Support students with material preparation and equipment usage
- Creating strong partnerships with local employers to provide unique work-based learning experiences for students
- Possess high quality instructional knowledge and be coachable on use of highly engaging strategies that align to the science of learning
- Enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education, and a willingness to work with Vincennes University to provide dual credits for our students, (ie., syllabi creation, etc)
- Ability to supervise the “lab environment” and classroom learning environment.
- Outstanding communication skills
- Experience assisting students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
- Professional organizational skills
- A willingness to possess the SPB (special purpose bus) license is preferred, but not required.
- Have verifiable work experience outside of education
- Have the ability to improve and enhance material preparation and equipment
- program based upon on industry standards
- Ability to develop partnerships with area employers and trades unions
- Have a good driving record
- Have a clean criminal history background
- Experience in vocational education or technical training preferred
- Extensive knowledge about careers in the construction industry
- Be computer literate
- Willing to participate in continuing professional development
- Ability to work with ALL stakeholders and business partners in the development of the program
- Provide students with extracurricular club experiences and serve as a SkillsUSA Advisor, with regional, state and potentially national competitions each spring.
