Skilled Trades/Construction
The Career & Technology Center at Fort Osage is accepting applications for a new Skilled Trades/Construction Instructor.
This instructor will teach Introductory Courses to freshman and sophomores regarding the Trade Courses available at the Career and Technology Center. In addition, there will be a co-taught "Geometry and the Trades" course with Fort Osage High School Math Teacher.
The preferred candidate has a minimum of three years full-time residential/commercial carpentry work or other skilled trade experiences. Any current Career and Technology Teaching Certificate issued by DESE can be accepted.
Required to Teach at Career and Technology Center:
- A minimum of three years verifiable industry work experience within the last ten years
- Current Missouri Career & Technical Education teaching certificate. If the successful candidate does not hold a current Missouri Career & Technical Education teaching certification, certification coursework will need to be completed within three years. Any
- Demonstration of highest levels of integrity and professionalism in all aspects, including appearance, demeanor, and attitude
- Superior organizational and problem-solving skills
- Solid computer software skills
- Associate's Degree or higher
This position is for the 2025-2026 school year. Salary is based on the adopted salary schedule for the 24-25 school year at this time (starting salary for CTC teachers= $51,600). We accept all previous years in certificated teaching roles as steps on the salary schedule. Career Technical Teacher
Purpose Statement
The job of Career Technical Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a career and/or technical skills teacher(e.g. Emergency Medical Technician, Construction, Culinary Arts, Automotive, Fire Science, etc.) with specific responsibility for instruction based on state and national curriculum and standards that prepares students to enter the work force and/or purse continuing education; providing opportunities for authentic outcomes; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
This job reports to the Director of the Career & Technology Center
Essential Functions
- Administers subject specific assessment and test for the purpose of assessing the level of students' competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Instructs students for the purpose of meeting State and National Standards.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. field trips, classroom, IDLH atmospheres, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing
other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional
lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine
finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a
generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
