Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in Patient Care:
Provide hands-on care to animals, including administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian. - Diagnostic Procedures:
Assist in collecting lab samples (blood, urine, feces), perform laboratory tests, and operate diagnostic equipment such as X-rays, ultrasound, and blood analyzers. - Surgical Assistance:
Prepare animals for surgery, monitor anesthesia during procedures, and assist the veterinarian during surgeries. - Client Communication:
Educate clients on animal health, treatments, and aftercare procedures. Address any questions or concerns they may have regarding their pet’s health. - Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes. - Patient Monitoring:
Monitor the condition of animals post-procedure or during hospitalization and provide ongoing care as needed. - Inventory Management:
Manage medical supplies and medications, ensuring that the clinic has the necessary items on hand. - Emergency Care:
Provide first aid and emergency care for animals as required, especially in urgent or critical situations.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or related field (preferred).
- State licensure or certification as a veterinary technician (as required by state regulations).
- Proven experience in a veterinary clinic or animal healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of animal health, care procedures, and medical terminology.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor with animals and clients.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, with the possibility of weekend and holiday shifts.
- Work in a clinical or hospital setting with exposure to animals of various sizes and species.
- May require the lifting of animals and equipment up to a certain weight.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move animals of various sizes.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and be on feet for extended periods.
- Dexterity to perform technical tasks like administering injections, taking blood samples, etc.
