As a Controller at Career Crusher Consulting, you will be instrumental in overseeing financial operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role is vital to our mission of delivering high-end solutions while maintaining financial integrity and supporting our clients' objectives.

We are seeking a highly experienced Controller with a strong background in Federal Government Contracting to oversee financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide strategic financial guidance. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance, proficiency in QuickBooks Online & Govbooks and experience managing payroll processing, project accounting, and compliance functions across various contract types, including CPFF, T&M, and Fixed Price contracts.

Key Responsibilities:Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and government contracting regulations.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to meet DCAA audit and regulatory requirements.

Payroll Processing & Labor Compliance:

  • Manage payroll processing for employees and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy, timely disbursements, and compliance with federal and state labor laws.
  • Ensure proper allocation of labor costs to government contracts in accordance with DCAA timekeeping and labor distribution requirements.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings, benefits deductions, and labor cost reporting, maintaining compliance with government contract regulations.
  • Audit payroll transactions to ensure accurate wage distribution and proper classification of exempt and non-exempt employees.

Project Accounting & Contract Compliance:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of government contracts, including project setup, revenue recognition, invoicing, and budget tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and DCAA regulations, serving as the primary point of contact for financial audits and compliance reviews.
  • Review and approve government invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Conduct cost analysis and pricing reviews, including indirect rate calculations, cost pool allocation, and billing rate structures.
  • Perform weekly and monthly reconciliations of project costs, tracking funding backlogs against ceilings and ensuring accurate labor, ODC, material, and travel cost allocations.

Financial Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Utilize and optimize Unanet, QuickBooks Online, or Deltek Costpoint for payroll processing, project accounting, budgeting, and expense management.
  • Lead process improvements to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and enhance financial reporting accuracy.
  • Provide guidance and training to project managers and finance teams on financial reporting, compliance, and operational controls.

Audit & Risk Management:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for DCAA/DCMA audits, including preparation and submission of incurred cost proposals and rate negotiations.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring compliance with government cost accounting standards and industry best practices.
  • Provide financial forecasts, estimates at completion (EACs), and risk analysis to support executive decision-making and strategic planning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA and/or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in federal government contracting.
  • Extensive knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA/ DCMA compliance requirements.
  • Strong expertise with Unanet, Deltek Costpoint, or QuickBooks Online for accounting and payroll processing.
  • Experience managing payroll, labor compliance, and tax filings in a government contracting environment.
  • Experience managing project financials, indirect rate calculations, contract pricing, and government invoicing.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience developing and mentoring finance teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or Professional services contracts.
  • Proven track record in DCAA/DCMA audit preparation and cost proposal submissions.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing financial management software for government contracting and payroll operations.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Hybrid work model with 2-3 days onsite in Virginia Beach, VA.
  • Occasional travel to company offices and client sites may be required.
