IT, Senior Manager DevSecOps - Data and Platform Engineering

Location : Reston, Virginia On-site 3 days a week / 2 days remote option

Salary : TBD

REPORTS TO : Director of Product Engineering LOCATION : Hybrid / Reston

The musts to be considered for this role :

7 years of experience in DevSecOps engineering with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
Deep expertise in DevSecOps and Agile / Kanban engineering practices and methodologies.
Strong technical expertise supporting microservices in Kubernetes / OpenShift environments.
Deep understanding of container technologies such as API gateways, Ingress controllers (preferably NGINX)

SUMMARY OF POSITION :

The Senior Manager of Data and Platform Engineering will lead the design, engineering, and production support activities to transform the data and compute platforms in support of increased resiliency, efficiency, and operability. This individual will lead cross-functional teams to ensure that the data, web application, and container platforms and delivery pipelines meet the growing needs of the business and foster a culture of continuous improvement and automation. This role combines technical leadership, strategic planning, and team management to ensure robust data architecture and platform scalability.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Data Engineering Strategy : Drive and lead the strategy and implementation of data as a product solutions to meet business needs.

Develop and execute the roadmap for transactional, tactical, and analytic data platform transformation aligning with business needs.

Design solutions that support business intelligence, analytics, machine learning, and operational efficiency.

Platform Engineering Strategy : Drive and lead the implementation of key platform architectural drivers such as self-healing, active-active redundancy, and proactive / predicative monitoring.

Define and manage CI / CD pipelines, including security and quality gating, automated performance and benchmark testing, and secure code analysis to support rapid development and continuous releases.

Establish best practices for security controls such as identity and access management (IAM), role-based access control (RBAC), and network policies.

Increase platform resiliency by introducing approaches such as chaos engineering, stress and failover testing, and advanced deployment strategies (blue-green, canary, etc.).

Platform Automation and Tooling : Oversee the development and maintenance of platform testing and proactive monitoring frameworks and tools.

Automate security scanning, vulnerability management, and security patching in containerized applications.

Automate synthetic transactions and implement proactive monitoring and alerting solutions for containerized applications.

Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for process improvements, tool enhancements, and automation to proactively identify production issues and improve resiliency. o Lead incident response and production support efforts and activities within both the current web application and containerized application environments.

Perform post-incident analysis and take corrective actions to strengthen security and surveillance postures across the environment.

Lead the automation around new and existing system, database, and application health checks, off-hours alerting, and existing processes.

Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and platform management.

Stakeholder Communication

Partner with product development, quality engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to integrate appropriate controls into the environment.

Provide transparent reporting on system and application health, trends, and forthcoming needs around increased capacity and tooling.

Risk Management

Ensure platform compliance to and appropriate industry security standards by implementing relevant policies and vulnerability remediations.

Develop and implement mitigation strategies and plans to minimize risks associated with platform and data engineering (security compliance, software lifecycle management, etc.)

Leadership and Team Management : Lead, mentor, and manage a team of platform and data engineers and professionals.

Collaborate with product engineering, operations, and security teams in implementing best practices and workflows while fostering a security-first culture.

Develop and execute a talent development plan, including performance reviews, career development, and training initiatives.

Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and improvement.

PRINCIPAL JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

7 years of experience in DevSecOps engineering with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.

Deep expertise in DevSecOps and Agile / Kanban engineering practices and methodologies.

Strong technical expertise supporting microservices in Kubernetes / OpenShift environments.

Deep understanding of container technologies such as API gateways, Ingress controllers (preferably NGINX),

Practical understanding of

Nix administration, networking, and DNS

Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI / CD) tooling such as Jenkins, Ansible, and ArgoCD.

Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as DataDog, Splunk, OpenSearch with dashboards and alerting.

Experience with application and web servers such as Tomcat, JBoss EAP, and Apache HTTPD.

Strong knowledge of data storage solutions (data lakes, data warehouses, Snowflake, etc.) and ETL / ELT processes.

Strong knowledge of data analytics platforms (Apache Spark, Databricks, etc.)

Strong knowledge in emerging technologies such as AI, ML, Quantum Computing, etc.

Track record of recruiting talented technical staff.

Ability to listen and integrate ideas from diverse views, build and maintain respectful relationships, collaborate with others, and resolve conflicts constructively.
