Job Description
Shifts : 12 Nights
Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing / fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, case organization in accordance with department procedures. Assure positive sample, block and slide identification Prepare and maintains reagents for routine stains and histology procedures. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule. Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed. Utilize independent judgment and problem solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance. Troubleshoots to and takes appropriate corrective action to resolve and / or escalate issues in a timely manner for resolution. Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
Requirements
- 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology More than one year of experience in Histology;
1-3 years of experience in a high volume histology setting is required
MUST BE A CERTIFIED TECHNOLOGIST FOR THIS ROLE
The Histology Technician in the pathology department is an assistant to the Pathologists and is responsible for prompt and accurate accessioning, cutting, embedding, cover slipping and staining of surgical specimens.
The position is also responsible for special stains, frozen sections, cell blocks, declassification, and filing slides, all required computer entries, reports, and records are done and discrepancies are brought to the attention of the Laboratory Pathologists.

Requirements
Undergraduate degree in HIM / HIT preferred (Associate's or Bachelor's). Active RHIA, RHIT, and / or (mandatory). Extensive experience auditing MS-DRG inpatient coding : 3 years of hands-on MS-DRG auditing in a hospital setting. 10 years of total medical coding experience preferred. Demonstrated expertise across all body systems (not limited to one specialty, such as Orthopedics). Ability to pass a coding test : 20 multiple-choice / true-false and 5-7 behavioral questions (90 minutes). Reside in an eligible state (not available for California, Alaska, New York, or Colorado candidates).
