Fiber Optic Technician (Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 Splicer)
Position Overview:
This role involves the installation, repair, and maintenance of fiber optic cables and related equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of fiber optic technology, demonstrate proficiency in various splicing techniques, and be committed to upholding quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fiber Optic Splicing: Perform fusion, mechanical, and ribbon splicing to connect optical fibers with minimal signal loss.
- Cable Preparation: Prepare, strip, and cleave fibers for splicing and termination.
- Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct OTDR, power meter, and continuity tests to ensure fiber optic cables meet performance specifications.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of splicing, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Repair and Maintenance: Diagnose and repair faults in fiber optic cables, including aerial, buried, and underground cables.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines and industry standards to ensure a secure working environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
- Equipment Management: Maintain and calibrate splicing equipment and tools to ensure optimal functionality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of both fiber and copper plant splicing and testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues within both fiber and copper plant systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team-building abilities, and leadership capabilities.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed, with availability for emergency call-outs 24/7.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
- A minimum of 2 years of splicing experience is preferred.

Job Expectations:
- Work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to various weather conditions (e.g., wind, rain, heat, cold, snow, sleet, mud).
- Physical requirements may include standing, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 80 pounds.
- Successful completion of background checks, drug screening, and other pre-employment requirements.
- Potential for extended travel, including overnight and out-of-town assignments, depending on project location.
- Flexibility with working hours, including possible overnight shifts or unscheduled emergency call-outs.
- Availability for extended travel periods (2 consecutive weeks) may be required.
