The Plant Superintendent will oversee and coordinate production activities, ensuring efficient use of personnel, machinery, and equipment. This role involves managing production methods, product technology, standards, and machine capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Superintendent will:
- Support the plant manager in daily operations and take on plant manager responsibilities when needed.
- Work with management to set production and quality standards.
- Plan and prioritize production activities while considering operational efficiency and costs.
- Coordinate production with procurement, maintenance, safety, and quality control to optimize resources.
- Analyze production data to identify and resolve issues related to non-compliance or production problems.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to improve processes, eliminate operational issues, and enhance product quality.
- Work with engineering to modify machines and equipment for better production and quality.
- Adjust production schedules as needed and communicate changes to all shifts and staff.
- Manage and develop the performance of direct reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- At least 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with 5 years in a managerial role.
- Career aspirations to advance to plant manager or higher.
- Willingness to relocate for growth opportunities.
- Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Up to 10% overnight travel.
- Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in the packaging industry.
- Key Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities, both individually and in a team setting.
- Proven experience leading teams to resolve issues.
- Knowledge of SPC, Six Sigma, 5S, SMED, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Understanding of manufacturing financials.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing talent.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands.
- May need to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Must have good vision (close, distance, color, and ability to adjust focus).
Working Conditions:
- Work will take place in both an office and plant environment.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicular traffic, and various temperatures.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise levels.
