JOB TITLE: Clinic LPN
**This role will be a floating position between multiple clinic locations in Shreveport.
GENERAL DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care under supervision for clinic patients. Complete test requisition and other related documentation. Performs independent nursing care at satellite facilities. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned and LPN may not be required to perform all duties.)
1. Nursing duties- Assesses patient according to medical complaints, takes vital signs, medication history, allergies, administers injections, oral medication, enemas, and performs venipunctures. Assist physicians in physical exams as needed. Receives and responds to incoming telephone calls. Ensures that clinical documentation is clear, concise and complete. Scheduling and canceling appointments, confidential handling of medical records, reporting messages to physicians.
2. Patient education- instructs patients and/or family members as directed by physicians in preparation for procedures, taking of medications and treatments. Makes decisions and judgments on phone calls and advises patients according to practice guidelines. Uses written patient education material and videos when appropriate.
3. Departmental duties- Cleaning and stocking exam rooms, ordering supplies, assisting in training of new personnel, maintains work area in neat and organized manner. Maintain good hygiene with proper uniform and shoes per practice guidelines. Maintain patient confidentiality. Perform related work as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Full range of body motion required to include occasional handling and lifting of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medications and their effect on patients. Knowledge of common lab values and the ability to interpret their significance in patient care. Knowledge of patient education principles to develop a self care program. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and writing nurses notes. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
EDUCATION: High school diploma. Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing or registered nursing.
EXPERIENCE: One or two years’ medical experience is preferred but not required
CERTIFICATE/License: Must have passed State Board of Nursing licensing examination and hold a current license for the State of Louisiana as a LPN or RN.
CPR certification required.
