Job Title: Health Science Teacher
Job Classification: Licensed Instructional
Reports to: Director of CTE and Special Projects
Work Schedule: School Calendar / 7:45am-4:15pm
General Description:
The Health science Teacher’s role is to create a well-rounded, comprehensive Health science program for students at Career Academy, grades 9-12. You will be responsible for providing support to the students and to the instructional process within the classroom and other assigned areas in a way that will be creative and interesting to the students. Applicants should be fluent with current industry health science processes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students for whom you are responsible within your classroom.
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
- Create daily lessons and prepare materials and classroom for class activities aligned with NLPS standards
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Assign and grade class work and homework
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
- Collaborate with parents or guardians, teachers, social worker, and administration in order to resolve students’ behavior and academic problems
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss children’s progress and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
- Provide differentiated instruction, student engagement, quality pacing and rigor throughout lessons taught
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and guide students in learning from those activities
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required which may go briefly beyond the scheduled workday.
- Perform administrative and supervisory duties, as needed
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.
- Select, store, order, issue, inventory and maintain classroom and shop equipment, materials, and supplies
School Activities
- Health science teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate on faculty committees, study and help resolve school problems.
Requirements
Essential Skills and Abilities
- Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing
- Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
- Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
- Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals
- Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings
- Ability to demonstrate and operate relevant machinery to the teaching of this content
- Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility
Requirements
Qualifications
- Two or more years experience in a health science field, at least 1 in a long term care facility.
- Be a registered nurse in good standing.
- Have or be eligible to obtain a workplace specialist license from the IDOE
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skill
- Demonstrates technology proficiency including but not limited to Microsoft applications
- Possess the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Stamina to handle highly active young people
- Lifelong learner- proven expertise and skills when working with new technologies
