General Description:
The Engineering Teacher’s role is to create a well-rounded, comprehensive Engineering Program for students at Career Academy grades 9-12. You will provide support to students and contribute to the instructional process within the classroom and other assigned areas in a creative and engaging way. Fluent in current industry engineering standards necessary.
Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience in an engineering field.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in technology use, specifically CADD or 3D Modeling (experience with Fusion 360 a plus)
- Must have or be willing to obtain an Indiana Teaching License (Professional, Charter, or Workplace Specialist)
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn, the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) framework
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain order among students in the classroom.
- Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Create daily lesson plans, prepare materials, and set up the classroom for activities aligned with NLPS standards.
- Set clear goals for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Assign and grade classwork and homework assignments.
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments to evaluate students' progress.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, teachers, social workers, and administrators to address students' behavioral and academic challenges.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and identify their priorities and resource needs.
- Provide differentiated instruction, engage students, and maintain quality pacing and rigor throughout lessons.
- Enforce administrative policies and rules governing students.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and enhance professional competence.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, guest speaker visits, and guide students in learning from these activities.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required, which may extend briefly beyond the scheduled workday.
- Perform administrative and supervisory duties as needed.
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of educational programs.
- Select, store, order, issue, and maintain classroom and shop equipment, materials, and supplies.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing.
- Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials.
- Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications.
- Ability to communicate assessment results, in both written and oral forms, to parents and professionals.
- Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time effectively, and maintain schedule flexibility.
- Possesses the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Stamina to handle highly active young people. Lifelong learner with proven ability and skill when working with new technologies.
School Activities:
- The Engineering Teacher is required to attend and/or participate in additional activities as directed by the administrator, such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperoning student activities, providing guidance for students, participating in faculty committees, studying, and helping resolve school issues.
