The TEAP Specialist is responsible for the design, development and coordination of the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Prevention/Intervention Program.
- Designs, develops and implements all programs related to substance use and abuse prevention and intervention in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, Counseling and Health Services staff, Center Physician and Center Director.
- Coordinates all programs designed to reduce and eliminate substance use and abuse.
- Works with Health and Wellness staff and Center Standards Office for the collection of drug test specimens, the documentation of results, and the consultation with students regarding results.
- Provides individual counseling for students regarding substance abuse and prevention, and healthy choices.
- Prepares and facilitates group sessions with students enrolled in the center’s TEAP program.
- Schedules and facilitates student activities related to the center’s TEAP program.
- Conducts weekly presentations for all new students regarding TEAP services, prevention, education, intervention, and Job Corps policies.
- Conducts regular presentations for all students participating in program areas and transitioning out of the Job Corps program on managing substance misuse, abuse, and dependency issues in the workplace.
- Develops and facilitates three annual center-wide substance use prevention and education activities.
- Conducts in-service training sessions with both staff and students in all areas related to substance use and abuse.
- Submits recommendations to the Center Director for medical separations related to substance misuse and abuse in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, center physician, and Health and Wellness Manager.
- Acts as liaison between the center and agency resources and referral contacts.
- Completes drug use risk assessments on all new intake students in conjunction with Mental Health Consultant and Counseling.
- Monitors behavior and progress of students involved in TEAP.
- Maintains confidential reports and records on all referrals and cases. Maintains all documentation of student results and group and activity participation.
- Complete pre-arrival phone calls to new applicants on an as needed basis.
- Prepares and submits appropriate reports as required.
- Facilitates Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyle (HEALS) groups in conjunction with Recreation and Health and Wellness Staff.
- Minimum: Must have active, unrestricted state certification in alcohol and drug counseling. Three years work-related experience. Model company Core Values.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field. Previous experience with disadvantaged youth, particularly in a residential setting highly desirable. Knowledge Required: Broad-based knowledge of counseling techniques. Knowledgeable in the area of alcohol and other drugs of abuse intervention program. Ability to design, develop and implement a program related to alcohol and other drugs of abuse and intervention. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Training skills in both individual and group counseling methods. Ability to relate well to young adults. Must possess and maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification. Ability to use center computer programs and Microsoft Office including but not limited to PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
