What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Specialist position at Career Systems Development Corporation?
BASIC FUNCTION: The Career Specialist provides employment and training services to individuals who may be dependent upon public benefits, have disabilities, be unemployed, underemployed, or have other barriers to employment. These services include job search activities, linking customers with employers, implementing training plans for skills upgrades and/or career advancement, employment counseling, and post-employment follow-up services.
WORK PERFORMED:
- Meets with individuals who have employment and/or training related goals.
- Assesses individuals of their education level, employment history, and other barriers to employment.
- Offers job search assistance and labor market information.
- Meets regularly with program participants to provide them with employment leads and to assist with their job search efforts.
- Provides résumé and cover letter writing assistance.
- Research career objectives using data and information provided to help program participants make educated choices.
- Counsels and assists program participants in problem solving to remove barriers to employment.
- Makes referrals to partner agencies as needed.
- Completes all required data entry and case management notes in a timely manner.
- Conducts workshops on employment related topics and attends job fairs.
- Contributes articles and consumer information to the Chautauqua Works website.
- May require travel between Jamestown and Dunkirk Chautauqua Works offices.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EQUIVALENT EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED: Bachelors' degree
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One year personnel, guidance, sales, or social work experience. Master's degree in these areas will be accepted in lieu of experience.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Social awareness, industrial procedures, record keeping, local geography, world of work, job market, computer literacy, oral and written communication skills, employment preparation skills, and area industries, area social service, and health agencies.
INCIDENTAL REQUIREMENTS: N.Y. State Driver’s license. Personal automobile for company business use.
