Seeking a Technical Writer who thrives in a fast-paced environment to support a long-term rail project in Pittsburgh, PA.
Requirements :
The Contractor , in the first few weeks of this assignment, will primarily involve an Onboarding process to obtain an understanding of the Communications Train Control (CBTC) System currently being installed for the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) and the documentation effort required to support it. W ill also need to learn the client's internal document management process, including the Teamcenter software tool, and the formal technical review (FTR) process. In addition, will need to learn the DOORS Requirements Management tool.
Responsibilities include :
Develop operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals and corresponding training materials, such as instructor guides and student guides, for the BART project.
Plan, develop, and submit technical documentation that describes specific equipment or subsystems that meet customer and / or contract requirements while adhering to company standards.
Revise technical documentation in response to internal FTRs and external customer reviews and resubmit in a timely manner.
Prepare technical documentation suitable for its intended audience and complete it by the scheduled due date.
Prepare periodic reports on technical documentation progress as requested by the Shared Services Manager.
Participate in Microsoft TEAMS meetings.
Work Hours : M ust be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the Contract. Current working requirements are two days per week in the office, three days per week at home.
Qualification : Essential Skills
Proven ability to write operation and maintenance manuals, and corresponding training materials, such as instructor guides and student guides, that are clear, concise, correct, and consistent.
Able to understand and organize large amounts of information that is technically complex and originates from a variety of sources.
Able to use existing engineering documentation, such as Software Requirements Specifications, Hardware Design Documents, Interface Control Documents, etc., to glean the necessary information required in the technical documents.
Ability to interview hardware / software subject matter experts and understand engineering-related information and terminology. Interviews will be in person or via TEAMS meetings.
Preferred Skills
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with engineering and project management personnel to elicit information, support, and help when required for technical documentation development.
Experience working successfully with challenging, difficult, and demanding customers.
Ability to proactively identify risks and work collaboratively with the team on solutions.
Experience reading and understanding contractual requirements. Knowing company contractual requirements versus customer expectations is a key requirement.
Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communications skills.

Plus Skills
Working knowledge of the Linux Operating System (RHEL OS).
Experience with Ethernet networks, servers, Cisco switches and graphical user interfaces.
Familiarity with databases and storage area networks.
