What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commodity Buyer position at Careers @ Hendrickson?
Position Purpose:
Supply chain professional who performs the strategic purchasing function for direct, indirect and MRO materials and services to support all departments within the facility. This individual will take leadership of cost reduction projects, and implementation of sourcing strategies. Additionally, this individual will be expected to identify, improve, and implement business processes as well as provide leadership within the department and with the supply base.
Essential Functions:
· Lead material cost reduction activities for assigned purchased material.
· Recommend changes/alternatives that reduce purchased material cost and/or add higher value to purchased components.
· Participate in cross-functional analysis to prepare recommendation(s) for make vs. buy decisions.
· Collaborate with all other Hendrickson divisions to identify and leverage total spend and/or standardization opportunities that will reduce overall costs to Hendrickson.
· Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
· Completes all purchasing tasks involved with the engineering change request process (e.g., RFQ, negotiation of costs and timing, supplier PPAP, etc.)
· Coordinate all aspects of Hendrickson “Warranty Recovery” Program regarding established warranty parameters for assigned commodities.
· Clearly documents relevant information about assigned parts and suppliers per department documentation guidelines.
· Maintains pricing agreements for all assigned purchased material and resolves any invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.
· Monitor and account for all fluctuations in purchase price variance (PPV) for assigned purchased material.
· Interact with all Hendrickson departments to assure a steady flow of materials.
Optimize on-hand inventory days against customer order fill performance of 95% or greater for commodities assigned. Evaluate freight and inventory carrying costs to establish optimum lot sizes, frequency and timing of deliveries. Identify and champion inventory reduction initiatives.
Manage CR process and communicate information to buyers.
Identify and analyze material, services and MRO requirements. Place and track Purchase Orders with suppliers to fully support production and service demand. Maintain all required records and computer data pertaining to assigned suppliers and parts.
Support information requests from corporate Purchasing.
Evaluate suppliers through methods such as supplier visits and various objective performance measures, including on-time delivery, and service performance.
Education and Training
· Bachelor’s degree in a business field
· Supply Chain concentration preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
· 2 years of related supply chain work experience or bachelor’s degree in supply chain management.
· Demonstrated negotiation success preferred.
· Competence with Microsoft Office software required.
· Familiar with and working experience in an IATF-16949 or other Quality regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
· Planning and organizational skills with an ability to handle a multitude of projects.
