Job Description:
- Collecting vital signs, medical history, and social history data.
- Reviewing and updating patient medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacy information.
- Assisting providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Collecting specimens, performing phlebotomy, and administering medications as directed.
- Conducting basic tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under provider supervision.
- Preparing, cleaning, and maintaining exam and treatment rooms.
- Assisting with patient registration, check-in/check-out, and scheduling.
- Managing clinic supply orders and maintaining preventive health measures.
- Answering clinic telephones and supporting emergency situations as needed.
Additional Responsibilities for Certified Medical Assistant II:
- Precepting new medical assistants and externs.
- Training staff on clinic procedures.
- Performing clinic-based quality or safety roles (e.g., maintaining immunization or medication registry).
Required Skills & Experience:
- At least one year of full-time experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage positively with patients and work as a team with staff and providers.
- Proficiency in documenting information into electronic medical records.
Preferred Experience:
- Epic experience is highly preferred but not required.
- Urology experience is not required, as primary duties involve vitals and urinalyses.
Education:
- No formal education required if other qualifications are met.
- Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred but not mandatory.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Medical Assistant certification from one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Health Career Association (CCMA)
- National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
