Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)

Job Description: The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for providing general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, focusing on the timely and accurate handling of specimens in a production environment. This position requires a strong background in data entry, with an ability to process up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour. The role involves a variety of tasks, including but not limited to A-station, presorting, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All functions must be executed with high accuracy, efficiency, and in adherence to quality standards.
This position requires an individual who can work well under pressure, learn quickly, and adapt to changes in compliance regulations related to specimen processing and testing, which may change on a daily basis. Flexibility is essential, as the position is subject to varying demands from customers and changes in departmental priorities. The SPT I position is critical to the quality of customer satisfaction, and employees must demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage specimen types, test orders, and related compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities:

Efficiently process specimens, adhering to productivity and quality standards.

Perform data entry with an accuracy rate that meets or exceeds 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Perform various specimen processing tasks, including A-station, presort, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Ensure timely and accurate pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory.

Understand and adhere to all regulatory compliance related to test orders and specimen types.

Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards.

Education Requirements:

Required Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of computers; proficiency in data entry with the ability to process 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Preferred Work Experience:

Previous laboratory experience, including knowledge of medical terminology related to a clinical laboratory.
