    PNP Staffing Group is excited to have been retained by Health People to lead their search for an Executive Director.

    About Health People :

    For a quarter of a century Health People (HP) has delivered critical, compassionate, peer-driven programs and services, transforming the lives of people in need. Based in the South Bronx, HP uses groundbreaking peer-to-peer education, innovative program curricula, instructive workshops, and referral relationships to empower participants to lead healthier, safer, and more productive lives. Our programs address HIV, asthma, smoking cessation, diabetes self-management, and outreach and navigation.

    In recognition of the effectiveness of our peer-to-peer model, HP was recently awarded a grant from MacKenzie Scott.

    Position Overview :

    The Executive Director (ED) of Health People is the leader of the organization and its primary public representative, reporting to the HP Board of Directors. The ED works in partnership with the HP Board and its senior leadership to ensure that the organization fulfills its mission, and to create strategies that ensure its future success and financial viability. One key goal is to expand HP's highly effective model by training partner organizations to implement peer health programs themselves.

    Primary Objectives and Responsibilities :

    Planning

    • Collaborates with the Board to define and articulate HP's mission and vision and then develops strategies for achieving organizational success, including strategic planning.
    • Creates annual operating plans that support the organization's strategic direction as set by the Board.
    • Submits annual budgets and program / work plans to the Board for approval.
    • Develops and monitors strategies for ensuring HP's long-term financial viability.
    • Leadership

    • Develops leadership within the organization.
    • Serves as the primary spokesperson and representative for the organization and actively advocates for HP, its beliefs, its mission, and its programmatic efforts.
    • Stays abreast of current trends related to HP's mission and services and anticipates future trends likely to have an impact on its work.
    • Acts as a liaison between the organization and the community, building relevant professional relationships, especially with stakeholders in healthcare and social services for underserved populations.
    • Establishes and maintains strong communication with key individuals in local, state, and federal government and the private sector.
    • Represents HP at advisory bodies and public functions, making effective presentations in support of the mission.
    • Operations

    • Oversees the operations of the organization and the design, delivery, and quality of its programs and services.
    • Manages compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Is responsible for oversight, implementation, and reporting to funding agencies, and assures compliance with funding requirements.
    • Creates and maintains policies and procedures to implement plans approved by Board.
    • Promotes an organizational culture that reflects HP's values, especially the value and role of peer education in promoting health, preventing and managing chronic illness, as well as encouraging optimal staff performance and rewarding productivity.
    • Builds effective human capital by hiring qualified staff, managing human resources, and ensuring staff receive timely and regular performance assessments.
    • Collects and analyzes information to evaluate the success of the organization's programs, making recommendations to refine or change HP programs as necessary.
    • Finances

    • Develops an annual budget for Board approval.
    • Develops plans and budgets for unrestricted funds available to the organization.
    • Manages the organization's resources within budget guidelines according to laws and regulations.
    • Ensures staff practice appropriate accounting procedures in compliance with GAAP.
    • Provides prompt, thorough, and accurate financial reports to keep the Board informed of the organization's financial position.
    • Oversees staff in the timely submission of grant applications and progress reports for funding agencies.
    • Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, and submitting proposals for Board support.
    • Board of Directors

    • Serves as an ex-officio member of HP's Board of Directors and its committees.
    • Supports operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing board members and interfacing between board and staff.
    • Advises the Board in the development of policies and strategic plans.
    • Ensures that the Board has sufficient and timely information, including reports at Board meetings.
    • Recruits new Board members to continue to expand range of expertise.
    • Required Skills

    • Minimum of eight to ten years of leadership and management at the senior levels of an organization that works with vulnerable and underserved populations.
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Background in public health or nonprofit healthcare.
    • Experience leading a strategic planning process involving board, staff and other key stakeholders.
    • Track record of creating new partnerships to operate programs.
    • Growth mindset and experience in creating the infrastructure to support growth.
    • Ability to advocate for peer education model and navigate political landscape of NYC.
    • Strong organizational skills and financial acumen.
    • Ability to balance competing priorities.
    • Track record of winning government grants and diversifying fundraising streams.
    • Proven ability to work effectively with a nonprofit Board of Directors.
    • Preferred Skills

    • Master's degree.
    • Experience with peer education model.
    • Government relations with NYC, NY State and federal officials.
    • Understanding of billing systems such as Medicaid.
    • Personal Characteristics

    • Maturity and professionalism to lead a respected non-profit.
    • Passion for HP's mission and a deep commitment to the peer education model.
    • An energetic, enthusiastic, and visionary leader with an expectation of excellence.
    • A goal-oriented executive with common sense and sound judgment.
    • Excellent oral, written, listening and interpersonal skills; in particular, the ability to communicate with and relate to HP's diverse constituencies, including participants, staff, government officials, community leaders and funders.
    • SALARY : $130,000 - $140,000 / year

      BENEFITS : Generous plan including health insurance, vacation and sick leave, disability, retirement (403b), commuter benefits, and flexible spending account.

      LOCATION : Bronx, New York City

      HOURS : Full time on-site
