Brownyard MacLean Security Services, LLC, a subsidiary of NFP, is seeking an Underwriter.
Successful Underwriters at Brownyard MacLean drive profitable growth for the company by assessing the risks of insuring General Liability, Excess Liability, Business Auto Liability, Workers Compensation, and Crime associated with Security Guard, Private Investigator, Alarm Installation, and Alarm Monitoring Risk applicants. They determine appropriate pricing, terms, and conditions for each policy as well as mandate risk management in accordance with the attributes of each risk. Most importantly, they foster solid broker/agency relationships and solicit market feedback with regular communication in an effort to attract and retain the best business possible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Review insurance applications for new and renewal accounts to determine the level of risk involved. Assess whether the exposures are within authority
· Interact with brokers and agents to gather missing information, resolve discrepancies, and answer questions
· Calculate loss ratios and evaluate claim severity and frequency to decide whether to offer coverage and if so, how to mitigate risk
· Decide whether to offer coverage based on the applicant’s risk profile
· Prepare proposals, negotiate terms, and document thought processes
· Review complex endorsements for acceptability and provide instructions for processing
· Provide backup assistance for overflow submissions and/or underwriter(s) who may be out of the office
· Establish and maintain solid broker/agency relationships
· Attend industry conferences, agency visits, and/or other company events as requested
· Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
· Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
· Knowledge of commercial insurance forms, processes and procedures
· Keen attention to detail, having an awareness and understanding of changing risk attributes over time
· Self-directed with strong organizational and time management skills
· Excellent communication skills
Education and/or Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, financial management, business, or a related field
· Previous experience in underwriting, insurance, or related field
Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
· Not required but highly encouraged
Physical Demand:
· As typical to an office job
· Work in-office up to two to three days per week, remote for up to two to three days per week with periodic additional requests to come into the office for meetings, guest visits, or other events.

The base salary range for this position is $68,000 – $80,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
