PURPOSE :
The Director of Vendor Management is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing both procurement operations and vendor management services, handling high level procurement escalations, supporting business owners in their procurement needs, managing the renewal cycle and providing leadership to CareFirst's third-party vendor management strategy and execution. the Director helps to build the vendor management office at CareFirst and will partner proactively and collaborate with leaders and internal stakeholders across all business units to ensure that the management of vendors is executed consistently and efficiently cross all levels and to proactively and positively influence behaviors. The Director will be responsible for employing appropriate strategies to reduce vendor risk, improve vendor performance, maximize value and decrease cost within vendor relationships. The Director will implement best practices in vendor management within the team and extend these practices across the organization. Additionally, the Director will establish analytics for top vendors and actively manage third party risk and spend. The ideal candidate is collaborative, organized and experienced in establishing and leading teams, with a strong background in procurement and / or vendor management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Build and lead the establishment of a vendor management office at CareFirst by providing long term vision and execution strategies from hiring and training talent to driving VMO initiatives.
- Create, maintain, and lead the delivery of policies, standards, procedures, communication and training strategies to support and sustain the Vendor Management Office.
- Drive the assessment of shadow VMO groups across the enterprise to develop a strategy for future organizational design, roles and responsibilities.
- Provides insight to business units and Executive leadership on current vendor relationships, including spend, relationship health and vendor performance, as well as providing mitigation options for any vendor-related issues and risks.
- Oversee vendor segmentation process and ensure vendors are appropriately classified based on CareFirst vendor tiers.
- Strategies will be employed to reduce vendor risk, improve vendor performance, maximize the value and opportunity to improve performance, and decrease cost within vendor relationships. Partners proactively with the business to influence behavior.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :
This position manages people.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education Level : Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience : 8 years experience in purchasing, procurement, supplier collaboration, development and / or compliance. 3 years management experience.

Salary Range : $137,840 - $255,866
