Position Summary
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) at Caremosphere provides essential support to clients in their homes, focusing on personal care and daily living activities to help clients maintain their independence and quality of life. The PCA works closely with clients and their families, following detailed care plans to ensure that all personal needs are met in a respectful and compassionate manner.
Position Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferably have a high school diploma or equivalency.
1 year experience in a caregiving role, particularly in a home setting.
Must have a satisfactory background screening.
Must have a valid Indiana Drivers License if transporting a client.
Must have personal means of transportation and a satisfactory driving record.
Must be free from health problems that may be injurious to client, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate same.
Position Requirements
Must comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping and meal preparation.
Must be able to maintain and operate in an effective, efficient and professional manner.
Must have the ability to understand home safety, handling emergencies in the home and infection control.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and their families.
Must understand and respect clients including ethics and confidentiality of care.
Empathy and patience, with a client-centered approach to care.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to meet client needs.
Must be capable of moving and transferring a client without posing a danger to the client or the employee him / herself.
Attend training sessions and workshops to improve skills and stay updated with best practices in personal care.
Key Responsibilities
Help clients with daily personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Aid in the safe movement of clients around their home and assist with transfers from beds to chairs and vice versa.
Prepare meals according to dietary needs and assist with feeding if necessary.
Provide reminders for medications according to the care plan to ensure they are taken on schedule.
Offer emotional support and companionship by engaging in conversation, participating in recreational activities, and accompanying clients on walks or other social activities.
Manage light housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and maintaining an organized living space.
Monitor the clients health by noting changes in physical condition or behavior and reporting significant observations to the supervising healthcare provider.
Assist clients with scheduling and transportation arrangements for doctors appointments or other errands.
Help clients perform physical therapy and other prescribed exercises to improve their mobility and overall health.
Maintain accurate records of care provided, including detailed notes on the clients condition and progress.
Understand and implement emergency response actions specific to the clients health conditions.
Provide guidance and support to family members on how to care for the client, enhancing their ability to assist when the PCA is not present.
Assist clients with the use of adaptive equipment like walkers, wheelchairs, and orthopedic devices.
Attend training sessions and workshops to improve skills and stay updated with best practices in personal care.
Manage mild behavioral or cognitive issues by employing techniques learned through training or care plans.
