The experienced Medicaid Specialist is responsible support assigned facilities within a geographic region to determines whether a resident is eligible for enrollment in the Medicaid program and other forms of government aid related to health care. Job duties include reviewing each applicants application to confirm that the financial statements and other personal information are accurate. interview the applicants and family members when necessary and document all findings that lead to approval or denial of the application.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties:
- Coordinate with Admissions, Social Work and Business Office Manager for assigned facilities to screening incoming and new patients to determine eligibility for enrollment in Medicaid programs
- Assisting patients in applying for financial assistance through Medicaid on behalf of our client facility.
- Interviewing patients or authorized representatives via phone or in person to gather information to determine eligibility for medical benefits.
- Obtaining, verifying, and calculating income and resources to determine client financial eligibility.
- Documenting case records using automated systems to form a record for each client.
- Following up with applicants to obtain accurate and complete information within strict timeframes.
- Completing/following up on all forms related to Medicaid eligibility.
- Performing any additional tasks related to the position assigned by the Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years experience performing related activities supporting enrollment in Medicaid programs in a subacute facility or hospital.
- Knowledge of Medicaid
- Knowledge of Point Click Care or other patient accounting & billing software
- Demonstrated experience leading a post-acute business office, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and resident trust accounts
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage a wide range of tasks with competing deadlines and limited supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate in written and spoken form with patients, families, colleagues, community agencies and vendors
