What You'll Be Doing
The 340B Patient Access Specialist is responsible for patient outreach and support. Supporting the operational, compliance, and patient access functions of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. This position ensures eligible patients receive medications through the 340B program in a timely and cost-effective manner by verifying eligibility, coordinating benefits, and serving as a liaison between patients, providers, and pharmacy staff.

What You'll Be Doing
The 340B Patient Access Specialist is responsible for patient outreach and support. Supporting the operational, compliance, and patient access functions of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. This position ensures eligible patients receive medications through the 340B program in a timely and cost-effective manner by verifying eligibility, coordinating benefits, and serving as a liaison between patients, providers, and pharmacy staff.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Patient Enrollment & Education
- Educate patients on 340B eligibility, benefits, and financial savings; along with options under the 340B program.
- Identify and verify 340B-eligible patients using established guidelines and systems.
- Review medical encounters, insurance coverage, and provider information to confirm eligibility.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely patient enrollment in the 340B progra
- Prior Authorization Follow-Ups
- Work closely with insurance companies and providers to expedite medication approvals.
- Assist patients with navigating access to medications through 340B contracted or in-house pharmacies.
- Support prescription coordination, including prior authorization, benefits investigation, and copay assistance as needed.
- Communicate with pharmacy teams, providers, and patient services to ensure continuity of care.
- Program Compliance
- Ensure all processes align with 340B regulatory standards while maximizing patient and physician satisfaction.
- Ensure adherence to HRSA guidelines and internal policies for 340B eligibility and recordkeeping.
- Support internal audits and data reviews by providing documentation and reporting as requested.
- Monitor utilization patterns and flag any issues or inconsistencies for further review.
- Physician & Patient Communication
- Serve as a direct contact for doctors and patients to address 340B-related concerns.
- Serve as a patient advocate by addressing questions, resolving access issues, and providing financial assistance information.
- Work with social work or case management to identify additional support resources when needed.
- Medication Tracking & Coordination
- Monitor delivery and payment status to prevent delays in patient treatment.
- Collaborate with registration, billing, clinical teams, and external partners (contract pharmacies) to facilitate access.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and improvement initiatives related to patient access and 340B.
Education & Experience:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in healthcare, pharmacy, case management, or patient access role required.
- Familiarity with the 340B Drug Pricing Program and/or patient financial assistance programs strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of EHR systems, pharmacy management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of insurance processes, medication authorization, and patient benefit coordination.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
- Primarily works in an office or clinical environment.
- May require occasional travel between clinic sites and partner pharmacies.
- Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
