SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing highly specialized medical patient care, diagnosis, and treatment the geriatric population of patients. The geriatric physician will promote a healthy and active lifestyle and pair patients with resources and treatment plans to attain and maintain well-being and independent living.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing robust, well-informed preventative treatment.
- Diagnosing innocuous and harmful physiological anomalies.
- Proposing resource-specific treatment regimens.
- Pinpointing assistive gadgets that alleviate pressing health-related symptoms.
- Fitting or instructing on the positioning of assistive technologies.
- Gauging the applicability of prescribed treatments.
- Reconfiguring ineffective regimens with urgency.
- Issuing pertinent referral documents when needed.
- Properly code diagnosis and treatment and updating their charts.
- Advocate for each patient's needs.
- Educate patients on healthy eating and mental exercise.
- Engage patients in their treatment and wellness objectives to foster long-term independence.
- Provide for organization and maintenance of an effective system of medical care with emphasis on wellness and prevention of illness.
- Provide an effective communication link between the Chief Medical Officer and non-management employees of the medical department.
- Performs studies/analysis to determine impact for:
- Healthcare outcomes.
- Policy change positives or negatives.
- Departmental efficiencies
- Other areas, as requested by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer to assist in administrative decision-making.
- Supervision of students.
- Diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Perform EKG and pulmonary function test interpretation.
- Non-invasive evaluation of gynecologic patients.
- Treatment of uncomplicated dermatological conditions.
- Treatment of acute back and neck pain, bursitis, tendonitis, tennis elbow, joint aspirations, abscess, etc.
- Perform excision and removal of foreign bodies from eyes and ears.
- Perform suturing of simple lacerations.
- Perform at the level and within the privileges bound by the medical license.
- Communicate back to management the attitudes, suggestions, and complaints of employees in a constructive business manner.
- Lead and motivate the employees to do their jobs effectively and efficiently.
- Assist in the orientation, training, and supervision of the Medical Department support staff.
- Lead by example holding themselves to the standards of conduct and performance that they command of peers and subordinates.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of Employee Handbook.
- Carry out the meaning of the CSMD Mission and Vision statements.
- Practice a culture of safety to reduce or prevent risk of injury, claims, loss, or liability by utilizing the Risk Management and Infection Control Plan.
- Perform responsibilities with a high-quality standard to yield improved compliance, quality, and patient outcome measures by adhering to the Quality Improvement Plan.
- Be present and ready for work as scheduled.
- Attend in-service trainings, departmental meetings, and community events.
- Work cohesively with team members.
- Attend required organizational meetings and participation on internal committees. Conduct in-service training as required or requested.
- Meet or exceed annual productivity standards.
- Utilizes technology to create a more efficient and effective way of doing business.
- Maintain confidentiality of workplace information according to the policies and procedures of the institution.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer.
REQUIREMENTS:
- EDUCATION:
Physician must be a graduate of an approved and accredited Medical School.
- LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Board certified or Board eligible in Family Practice or Internal Medicine, with a specialization in geriatrics. Family Physician must be licensed to Practice Medicine in the State of Louisiana and possess a Medical School Diploma, Board Certification Notification and/or Residency Training Certificate. Federal and State DEA Certificates.
- JOB KNOWLEDGE:
The Physician must have excellent independent judgement and decision-making skills relating to patient healthcare.
- SUPERVISES:
Indirectly supervise Registered Nurse, License Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, and all other medical staff employees.
