What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician / Assistant position at CareVet?
Veterinary Technician / Assistant (Part-Time)
Columbia Animal Hospital (Columbia, MO)
This is a part-time position and we are looking for these specific shifts:
Thursdays and Fridays 8am to 5:30pm
Every Other Saturday 7:30am to 12:30pm (typically)
Summary
We are a general practice veterinary hospital that provides care for dogs, cats, and exotic animals (including birds, reptiles, amphibians, exotic mammals, fish, and others). If there is availability on our schedule, we will sometimes also see same-day urgent cases; this is always up to the discretion of the vet on staff to prevent over-scheduling and burnout. We perform routine surgery and dentistry. We do offer boarding as well.
We have a focus on decreasing pet fear and anxiety, with low-stress handling and species-specific rooms that we use whenever possible (dog room, cat room, and exotic room). Our goal is to offer compassionate care, high-quality medicine, and we aim to make sure our clients understand and are a part of the decision-making process for their pets.
As a workplace we strive to maintain a focus on work-life balance and healthy boundaries. We know that our staff are people first, and here as staff second - everyone is encouraged to be themselves and we work hard to maintain open dialogues and innovations. Shifts are typically from 8am to 5:30pm with an hour blocked for lunch each day (the building is locked during that time and phones are off). We have intentional morning and evening huddles to meet as a team and check in, as well as answer questions and explore innovation ideas as needed. We do not have any evenings, overnights, or on-call shifts. We do work every other Saturday (half shift only, in the morning). Scheduling is dependent on the doctor on shift, and is subject to change - this is just an idea of our current schedule.
We believe in a Whole Person Approach when it comes to our veterinary teams. This includes a living wage for all hospital Team Members, best-in-class benefits, mental health support, and continuous education. Investing in our teams and sharing the growth that they are instrumental in driving are top priorities, which is why every Team Member is eligible to participate in our revenue sharing program as well. All positions come with growth opportunities – whether you are seeking skill development to advance your career or to build additional capacity to better service your community, we custom tailor plans for each Team Members career journey.
We understand that the veterinary field can have ups and downs, and our goal is to create a sustainable and healthy environment. If this sounds like it may be a fit for you, please reach out! We would love to talk with you more and answer any questions you may have.
