Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing, Detox and Inpatient Behavioral Health provides leadership and oversight for all clinical, operational, administrative, and strategic aspects of behavioral health program services, including inpatient behavioral health and detox services. Collaborates across all nursing and clinical leaders to assure smooth patient care progression and effective outcomes. Directs collaborative efforts with physicians, nurses, and patients to incorporate evidence-based practices and appropriate use of resources. Communicates effectively with Hospital leadership in the development of day-to-day and strategic goals.
Essential Functions:
- The Director of Nursing, Inpatient Detox and Behavioral Health is responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of each department assigned, with a key focus on interpreting, leading, and complying with the CareWell Health mission, vision, goals, and policies as well as all regulatory requirements such as those defined by CMS, The Joint Commission, and the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
- Supervises and evaluates behavioral health leadership, ensures compliance to policy, procedure, and regulations, directs nursing leadership to: appropriately manage staff and personnel decisions; orient new staff, review credentials, ensure appropriate annual education and competency, handle disciplinary actions including termination.
- Coordinates with each respective Medical Director for delivery of the department's psychiatric medical services, as well as the development and implementation of behavioral services policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, clinical standards of care, and industry best practices
- Oversee the management of all Behavioral Health Services both operationally and fiscally.
- Evaluates effectiveness and compliance with grant and subsidy funded programs, ensures accurate and timely completion of all requirements.
- Provides oversight and administrative support for DMHAS, and other regulatory on-site visits.
- Collects and analyzes data related to quality or performance improvement that apply to Behavioral Health Services. Participates in quality assurance and compliance processes to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Works with marketing to create strategies and materials to promote programs and services offered. Markets service lines in the community. Attends and participates in community events.
Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to build strong, effective relationships internally throughout the organization's locations and externally as needed to support the company’s business activities. Minimum Education/Certifications:
- Masters Degree preferred or a minimum of 5 years of direct leadership experience in a behavioral health setting.
- Current NJ State RN License
- Valid BLS certification
Minimum Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care and/or Emergency Department
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare
- This position requires a high degree of clinical knowledge and competence as well as management/business skills and knowledge of community based behavioral health services
- Must have a proven background of success in program development, physician engagement and business growth
- Must have experience managing multi-clinical programs and marketing.
- Knowledge of managed care, DOH, DMHAS, CMS, Joint Commission and Medicaid standards and regulations
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a hospital environment. Work is subject to performance under exposure to individuals with diseases, including communicable diseases, noise, fumes, and potentially dangerous situations, while supervising work.
- May be required to sit for long periods of time, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, reach or climb.
- May be required to stand or walk, for a good portion of the workday.
- May be required to exert significant force to push, pull or lift objects or move patients.
- Interacts with family, visitors, health team members and other hospital and referral agencies.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Salaried, exempt employee
- Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed.
