Job Summary
Responsible for the daily operation of the Environmental Services, Linen and Transport departments in providing a high level of quality on a consistent basis. Must maintain high sanitary standards for all hospital buildings. Maintain the hospital linen distribution is completed daily, and ensure all areas have linen to complete patients' needs. This position is responsible for daily oversight of regulatory standards, financial stewardship of department operations and collaboration with other management and supervisory team members to support the department in its daily functions.
Essential Functions
- Supervises the necessary resources needed for the Environmental Services, Linen and Transport departments under their control and makes recommendations to hiring, promoting and annual staff performance reviews.
- Supervises a waste program that separates, packages and disposes of all waste according to all regulations
- Performs quality improvement initiatives under direction of EVS manager. Conducts rounding activities to ensure environmental hygiene in the Hospital, MAB, East Pavilion, 80 So, Munn, and the Family Health Center. Documents results and prepares necessary reports for distribution to manager(s) and others.
- Manages the bed tracking system and ensures EVS response times are achieved. Prepares reports to document results, collaborating with the EVS Director to develop improvement activities.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff. Demonstrates working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfection principles and requirements, proper chemical, equipment usage, and labor requirements for maintenance of furniture, furnishings, interior finishes for all areas of responsibility.
- Provides oversight of inventories, usage data, and ordering of consumable supplies and equipment repairs
- Prepares master work and time schedules under the direction of the Director; coordinates vacation and holiday time and reviews daily adjustments in the work schedule.
- Coordinates activities with other departments and institutional needs. Foster team oriented working environment with a “hands on” approach.
- Actively participate in Hospital meetings and serve on committees as appropriate.
- Awareness of community agencies and resources.
- Knowledge of regulatory, legislative and TJC standards related to environmental services. Assure continuous readiness as it relates to regulatory agencies: JCAHO & DOH.

- Assists in onboarding new Environmental Services Aides, Linen Clerk, and Patient Transporters, as requested

Minimum Education/Certifications
Current NJ driver’s license required.
Minimum Work Experience
A minimum of four years of experience as an environmental services manager at a healthcare facility.
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary: lifting up to 10-20 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount frequently.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics is essential.
Occasional forward bending, crouching, knelling, twisting, climbing, reaching forward or overhead and keyboard entry.
Working Conditions
Works regularly under desirable conditions with little or no disagreeable feature. Job does not have risk of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood borne pathogens.
Deals with adults of diverse backgrounds on the job. Thorough knowledge of physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of adults.
