Carex is partnering with a Utility Industry partner to hire a Senior Field Engineering Specialist. This role involves performing moderately complex engineering detail and field work, ensuring work orders meet all requirements while selecting cost-effective and safe project designs. As a primary customer contact for assigned communities, this position manages inquiries regarding new or existing electric and gas systems. Additionally, the role may involve training less experienced staff.
What You'll Do:

This role involves performing moderately complex engineering detail and field work, ensuring work orders meet all requirements while selecting cost-effective and safe project designs. As a primary customer contact for assigned communities, this position manages inquiries regarding new or existing electric and gas systems. Additionally, the role may involve training less experienced staff.
What You'll Do:
- Handle moderately complex customer inquiries regarding company procedures, engineering details, tariff applications, service rules, code requirements, and metering.
- Communicate work orders with crews and provide training as needed.
- Plan work orders, including estimates, material lists, sag calculations, and switching/valve sequence planning.
- Perform various fieldwork tasks such as load determination, staking, securing licenses, survey work, and joint-use applications while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Track and report work-related functions in work management and GIS/Mapping systems.
- Provide technical support for work requests, resolve technical issues, and ensure crews understand project scope and details.
- Coordinate with operations managers and supervisors to schedule work.
- Participate in community relations activities as a company representative.
- Support emergency response efforts, including assessing risks, coordinating labor resources, and monitoring callout procedures.
- Stay current with company procedures, industry standards, and construction materials.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
- Knowledge of construction practices, gas and electric codes, OSHA rules, and DOT requirements.
- Experience with utility construction equipment, project management, and material procurement.
- Strong mechanical, surveying, and drafting skills.
- Proficiency in computer software such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools (STORMS and ArcFM preferred).
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Must be switch-qualified in electrical operations switching, gas operations, and gas emergency procedures.
