TITLE: Director of Food Services
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Designee
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Food Services is responsible for overseeing the planning, administration, and operation of the district's food service program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while providing nutritious and appealing meals to students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are representative but not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on school needs and at the discretion of the Superintendent.
- Program Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures for the food service program.
- Ensure compliance with all USDA, Ohio Department of Education, state, and local regulations regarding child nutrition programs.
- Establish and maintain standards for food quality, safety, and sanitation.
- Menu Planning and Nutritional Compliance:
- Plan menus that meet federal and state nutritional requirements.
- Incorporate student preferences and feedback to enhance meal participation.
- Monitor portion control and food presentation.
- Financial and Budgetary Management:
- Develop and oversee the food service budget, including cost control and revenue generation.
- Monitor purchasing and inventory control to minimize waste and manage expenses.
- Prepare financial reports and maintain records in compliance with audit, Ohio Department of Education requirements.
- Staff Supervision and Training:
- Recruit, train, and supervise food service personnel.
- Ensure staff follows proper food handling procedures and adheres to safety regulations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
- Operations and Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintain and oversee the proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment and facilities.
- Develop procedures for food preparation, storage, and serving that meet health and safety standards.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Work closely with school administrators, staff, and parents to promote a healthy school nutrition environment.
- Serve as the district’s liaison for food service-related inquiries and concerns.
- Engage in community outreach efforts to support child nutrition programs and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Associate’s Degree and minimum of three (3) years of experience in school food service management or a related field.
- Knowledge of USDA child nutrition programs, Ohio Department of Education regulations, and food safety regulations.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in budget management, menu planning, and procurement.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and community stakeholders.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily works in a school cafeteria and office setting.
- May require lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and exposure to kitchen-related hazards.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events or meetings.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and benefits to be determined by the Board of Education.
- Contract length as determined by district policies.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with district policies.
