What are the responsibilities and job description for the COOK position at Caribou Medical Center?
We’re seeking a reliable and skilled Cook/Baker to join our culinary team. In this role, you’ll prepare nutritious and appealing meals for patients, staff, and guests while ensuring quality, portion control, and timely service.
Using standardized recipes and precise food prep methods, you’ll help maintain high standards in our kitchen. You’ll also lead the food production department during your shift, playing a key role in the dining experience of those we serve.
Core Responsibilities
1. Prepares and serves food for residents, patients, staff and special functions.
a. Prepares food in a timely manner ensuring that residents, patients, employees, and guests are served as scheduled.
b. Prepares, garnishes and services food in an attractive manner.
c. Follows standardized recipes, making only appropriate and/or approved substitutes.
d. Utilizes production records and resident/patient encounters to prepare hot food items in sufficient quantity to cover service requirements and reduce waste.
e. Unlocks kitchen before the day shift and/or secures the kitchen after the night shift. Locks the back door by 6:00 p.m.
f. Adheres to the cleaning schedule and ensures that fellow employees do the same.
2. Prepares and understands modified diet requirements
a. Follows Dietary Manager’s and Dietician’s orders for special modified diets.
b. Prepares and serves appropriate food per regular diet and diet modification standards.
c. Competent and required to provide dietary services related to the following age groups: newborn, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatrics.
3. Utilizes proper safety and sanitation techniques.
a. Obtains and records temperatures according to department policy.
b. Utilizes gloves during direct hand/food contact 100% of the time.
c. Maintains equipment utilized in a clean, safe, and sanitized condition.
d. Exercises proper storage and handling techniques for food i.e. labels, dates, covers, “first in first out” etc. Disposes of leftovers at three days.
e. Operates equipment safely.
f. Assists in washing and sanitation of dishes and work areas using the proper cleaning solutions and amounts as directed by departmental policies and procedures.
g. Initiates work orders for equipment repair.
h. Reports all accidents to the Dietary Manager immediately.
i. Practices proper containment and disposal of garbage as directed by departmental procedures.
4. Understands the cook/baker position in relation to other dietary staff positions.
a. Assumes the responsibility for training new employees who fill the cook/baker position.
b. Inventories and supplies nourishments as needed for diet kitchen on hospital floor.
c. Standardizes and incorporates new recipes into the menu cycle.
d. Assists the purchaser in routine weekly food orders.
5. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications needed for position including certifications
Preferred: 1 year Previous Experience.
