What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician LPN position at Caribou Medical Center?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate ER Technician to provide vital support to our licensed medical team in an emergency room setting. As an ER Technician, you will be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals with patient care, performing clinical and administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth operations within the ER. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff to deliver timely and efficient care to patients in need of urgent medical attention.
Core Responsibilities
1. Applies the clinical discipline of nursing through the nursing process.
A. Demonstrates ability, under direct supervision of an RN, to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
B. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding patient management.
C. Coordinates and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
D. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
E. Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
F. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.
G. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
H. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients an family; communicates with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in-hospital an post-discharge needs
I. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
J. Meets current documentation standards and policies.
K. The LPN interacts effectively with physicians as an advocate of patient care.
L. Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking skills within the nursing profession.
2. The nurse demonstrates ability to perform technical tasks and procedures safely and accurately.
A. The LPN successfully completed the performance standards inclusive of the yearly competencies for the primary area.
B. Follows all National and facility standards for safe medication administration and security using resources available and critical thinking skills.
C. Effectively assists in the orientation of new employees when requested.
D. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
E. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN
F. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provider services to level of licensure.
G. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition.
H. Ability to interpret labs results and take appropriate action based on those tests.
I. Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
J. Work shifts in the Covid-19 annex and any other Covid-19 related tasks assigned within your scope of practice.
3. Maintains effective communications.

Work Environment This job operates in a hospital setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. This role may come in contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. There may be risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids, latex, and odors/chemicals. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, non-exempt position. Shifts are 10-12 hour depending on need. Must be physically and mentally able to work extended hours when necessary.
