POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vision Program Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of patient care and administrative functions within the clinic. This role involves scheduling appointments, assisting patients, and managing medical records. Key duties include conducting ophthalmic procedures, maintaining inventory, and ensuring cleanliness and sterilization of equipment. The Vision Program Assistant also gathers program data, supports special projects, and develops case management plans for social services through thorough needs assessments. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall functionality and patient care services of the clinic.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedules and manages initial and follow-up patient appointments.
- Facilitates incoming phone calls and provides patient assistance.
- Ensures completion of Volunteer Physician Referral Forms.
- Conducts ophthalmic pre- and post-appointment procedures.
- Manages both physical and electronic patient medical records
- Gathers and reports vision program data as required.
- Ensures adequate stock of ophthalmic medications, including regular checks on expiration dates.
- Sanitizes and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and furnishings in between patients.
- Assists in the completion of special projects as needed.
- Creates initial case management plan for social services through needs evaluation and assessments.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school Diploma Required.
- Associate's Degree or other relevant Post Secondary Education preferred.
- (English/Spanish) Required
- Trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole) Preferred
- 2 years of Ophthalmology experience preferred
- 2 years of experience with Athena EMR or other Electronic Medical Record System.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
