SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing nursing care in the Health Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervises direct nursing care in the Health Center.
- Functions in the capacity of DON in his/her absence.
- Administers direct nursing care, on the floor, when more than routine care is indicated.
- Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
- Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records.
- Supervises nursing personnel on all shifts. Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of nursing staff.
- Assures timeliness of physician visits and accompanies physicians when making rounds.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Coordinates, conducts, and documents the MDS, resident care plans, and conference in the absence of the MDS Coordinator.
- Assists with orientation of nursing personnel.
- Participates in family/resident counseling
- Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore residents’ independence.
- Assures proper functioning of medical equipment and adequate medical supplies.
- Assists DON in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- On-call for RN Supervisor, DON, and/or Staffing Coordinator. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
- Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Work as team and assist all other department members when needed.
- Be able to work cooperatively with other healthcare professionals and other departments within the system.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must communicate with internal and external contacts in a professional manner.
- Have the ability to maintain a professional relationship with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff by demonstrating appropriate interpersonal skills and demeanor. Possesses knowledge of and implements infection control and universal precaution practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Maintains a current license with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Have a current card for the successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR – Healthcare Provider). Have Geriatric/Rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of restorative nursing.
