Responsibilities of the Position

The Medical Biller must have extensive experience in medical billing, preferably in a behavioral health provider organization. This position requires familiarity with the Arizona Health Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in Arizona and understanding the use of a Clearinghouse, preferably, Office Ally. Experience working with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is required.

Responsibilities of the Medical Biller include but are not limited to the following:

• Process and submit medical claims to MCO’s in Arizona utilizing the CCSN electronic health record and clearinghouse.
• Ensure accurate and timely billing of behavioral health services provided by CCSN.
• Adhering to all claims and billing guidelines and protocols.
• Navigate and use CCSN’s electronic health record (ICANOTES) for entering and reviewing member information and clinical documentation to support accurate billing.
• Verify patient insurance information and update the electronic health record as required.
• Utilize Clearinghouse, Office Ally to manage claim submissions, track claim statuses, and follow up on denied and rejected claims.
• Prepare and analyze daily, weekly and monthly billing reports, using advanced Excel skills to identify trends and discrepancies in claims data.
• Collaborate with the MCO’s billing and claims teams to resolve issues or discrepancies.
• Remain current with AHCCCS regulations and MCO policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
• Assist with the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and billing system processes.

Key Competencies for Success of a Medical Biller

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Medical Biller preferably in a behavioral health provider organization.
• In-depth knowledge of AHCCCS (Medicaid) and Arizona MCO insurance billing procedures. 
• Familiarity with EHR systems is required. 
• Experience working with a claims Clearinghouse.
• Knowledge of Office Ally is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, charts & graphs, and data analysis)
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. 
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills. 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and a high-volume claims processing environment.

What you Need - Education and Work Experience

• Certification in Medical Billing or Coding. 
• Knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems (CPT, ICD-10). 

Other required knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Must be 21 years of age or older, in accordance with Dept. of Health Services R9-20-204.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office- Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Must maintain a current/valid/unrestricted Level 1 Fingerprint Card
• TB test within 7 days of hire.
• Must be able to meet and maintain training and agency compliance training requirements for the position.
• Ability and willingness to receive coaching and feedback.
