Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Caregiver (Direct Care Aide) to provide high-quality care and support to our elderly clients in an Adult Day Health Services (DAHS) setting. As a Caregiver, you will help clients maintain their independence and dignity by assisting with daily tasks, ensuring their safety and comfort, and fostering a positive environment. This is a fulfilling role where you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need extra support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medication Administration
- Help clients take prescribed medications at the appropriate times, following facility and DAHS guidelines.
- Document medication administration accurately and report any concerns to the supervising nurse or administrator.
2. Daily Living Assistance
- Assist clients with personal care and hygiene needs, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, or toileting, only when necessary.
- Encourage and support clients to perform tasks independently whenever possible, promoting autonomy and self-esteem.
3. Mobility & Ambulation
- Assist clients with ambulation and mobility within the facility or on outings (e.g., doctor’s appointments, walks, planned group activities).
- Use proper transfer techniques to ensure client and personal safety.
4. Meal Preparation & Nutrition
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals or snacks according to dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Encourage client participation in meal planning and preparation when feasible.
5. Light Housekeeping
- Perform cleaning and tidying tasks that clients are unable to complete on their own (e.g., sweeping, mopping, laundry, disinfecting surfaces).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
6. Activity & Engagement
- Lead or assist with planned recreational or therapeutic activities, promoting social interaction and mental stimulation.
- Round regularly with clients to check on their well-being, engage them in conversation, and provide emotional support.
7. Companionship & Support
- Be a pleasant and supportive companion, offering conversation and listening to clients’ concerns or interests.
- Accompany and assist clients during facility outings or appointments, ensuring their comfort and safety.
8. Monitoring & Reporting
- Observe and report any changes in clients’ physical, mental, or emotional status to the appropriate team member.
- Act quickly and responsibly in emergencies, following facility protocols and safety guidelines.
9. Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate client records, including attendance, care notes, incident reports, and progress updates, in line with DAHS and state regulations.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
Skills
- Strong understanding of caregiving principles and practices.
- Experience in home community care or nursing home settings is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities and diverse needs.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies to assist clients appropriately.
- Proficient in monitoring vital signs and recognizing changes in client conditions.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with clients, families, and team members.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others improve their quality of life.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to connect with elderly clients.
- Knowledge of housekeeping and cooking, particularly for clients with dietary constraints.
- Good time management, reliability, and organizational skills.

Pay: $8.00 - $9.50 per hour
