Hourly Grounds Assistant Summer

Position Title: Hourly Grounds Assistant – Summer

Classification: Physical Plant Non-Exempt/Non-Bargaining 

Level: I, Hourly Minimum Wage

Reports To: Assistant Coordinator of Facility Services

Principal Working Relationships: Assistant Coordinator of Maintenance Services Vice President of Institutional Resources, Grounds Assistant and Staff

Purpose: Maintain an appealing appearance of the campus grounds 

Major Responsibilities

1. Mow lawns, trim shrubbery and trees, cut weeds and assist with maintaining landscape.
2. Pick up debris in parking lots, sweep sidewalks and parking areas, clean smoking containers, empty trash, clean school vehicles and windows. 
3. Assist with custodial duties as needed.
4. Other duties as assigned.

1. Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the college Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position.
2. Monitor conditions, events, and circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or Risk Management Committee.
3. Carry an operational radio/walkie-talkie at all times.
4. Maintain a working knowledge of the college’s emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems; including internal/external call boxes.

Minimum Necessary Skills, Experience and Educational Background

1. Valid driver’s license.
2. Willingness and ability to learn use of power equipment such as mowers, and weed trimmers
3. High School diploma or GED required.
4. Good working knowledge of electrical and mechanical skills.
5. Should be experienced in the use of power equipment such as tractors, mowers, chain saws.
6. Should be experienced in the use of power hand tools.
7. The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, sex, or race.
8. Spanish or French proficiency preferred.

Physical Requirements to Perform Functions

1.Able to perform arduous work.

2.Capable of lifting 50 lbs.

3.Able to work on ladders.

4.Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
