Overview The Inpatient Unit (IPU) is committed to our Nursing Professional PracticeModel; we believe in caring relationships with our patients, families,community, and colleagues to provide exceptional care. On the IPU, ourdedicated nursing staff, nurse leaders, interdisciplinary team members, andphysician partners practice on a critical access hospital unit. On this unit,specialized medicalnursing care is provided to our acute patients.Rehabilitative care is also provided to our swing bed patients. Medicaldiagnoses for our acute care patients include but are not limited topneumonia, heart failure, cellulitis and urinary tract infection.Rehabilitative services for our swing bed patients include but are not limitedto physicaloccupationalspeech therapy, wound care management, nutritionaltherapy and IV antibiotic therapy. Care is provided by a highly-trained staffutilizing the most current technology and equipment. The IPU is fast-paced,exciting, and always evolving. The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is aprofessional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients fora designated time frame and provides care to these patients via theutilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial andhuman resources within the philosophy of the institution. - LicenseCertifications :
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financialand Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days -American Heart Association (AHA)

- Bachelors Degree; H.S. DiplomaGED

- Responsibilities Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to thescope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specificarea of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursingcare provided to assure the integration of information for use by thehealthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission anddevelops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and thatis based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursinginterventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based uponcontinuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety byreporting andor correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates withothers directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offersconstructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, andconfers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learningneeds and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution. Fulfills allrequirements of departmental competencies. Receives patient Bedside ShiftReport from an RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring the inclusion ofthe patient input, visual validation of a safe patient room environment at thetime of shift change and updating of the patient communication board found ineach patient room Delegates patient care tasksresponsibilities to assignedHCTrsquo;s and validates completion of delegated tasks throughout the shiftCompletes and documents basic RN patient care activities such assessments,interpretation of vital signs, ensure physician order completion,admissiondischarge of patients, hourly rounding completion on each assignedpatient, care plan documentation and patient education Meets Carle MedSurg RNdocumentation standards for each assigned patient RN will provide patientmedications utilizing the patient 5 Rights : Right Patient, Right Medication,Right Route, Right Dose and Right Time Maintains patient safety as the highestpriority level : ensuring safety measure compliance such as fall precautions,pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions and patient ambulation safetyMaintains a positive attitude at all times on unit that promotes a healthywork environment and a healing patient environment Keeps a diligent focus onprompt answering of patient call lights to ensure effective triage andcompletion of patient requestsmedical needs Uses critical thinking toevaluate the overall patient condition and uses nursing judgement to identifyand act on changes in patient status Effectively communicates within thehealthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patientcare coordination and patient safety About Us
