Position Summary :

The Ophthalmic Photographer is responsible for providing diagnostic imaging support to clinical physicians. Perform a varierty of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of diseases of the eye. Perform multiple ophthalmic imaging procedures including; digital and film fluorescein / ICG angiography, color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, anterior segment slit-lamp biomicroscopy, goniography, public relations and teaching-based general photography and media support. Must maintain ongoing requirements for research trials. May supervise other Photographers (including temporary workers and affiliated staff).

Qualifications :

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associates Related Field CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Certified Optical Coherence Tomographers (OCT-C) within 6 months and Certified Retinal Angiographer-(CRA) within 4 years and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) From the following certification bodies : National Health Career Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or American Allied Health (AAH) within 1 year or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) From the following certification bodies : American Medical Technologists (AMT) or the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) within 1 year. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 1 year experience in related healthcare field. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Work requires considerable knowledge of standard photographic techniques, materials, processes, and equipment generally obtained through training in photography or medical / biomedical photography / communication and certification as a retinal photographer / angiographer through fundus photograph and OCT reading centers.

    Essential Functions :

  • Takes images of Ophthalmic patients using specialized equipment, such as Ocular fundus imaging system, Optical Coherence Tomography, Specular Microscopy, and Photo slit lamp Biomicroscope as requested by physician.
  • Supervises and directs Ophthalmic photographers, staff and trainees assigned to unit.
  • Prepares images, videos and other imaging support as requested by physician, fellow and residents for the purpose of lectures and educational presentations.
  • Obtains certification for all clinical research studies which require photography for collecting data.
  • Reviews proposed grant applications and clinical trials protocols involving photographic effort to advise faculty members on the impact to resources and the cost of photographic studies.
  • Researches and recommends purchase of high tech equipment to upgrade photographic services in each retinal exam room.
  • Maintains clinical examination device computers, academic computers and departmental web site.
  • May maintain and upgrade clinical network server and networked computer systems used for storage and retrieval of diagnostic and documentation of images of patients.

  • Maintains and cleans ophthalmic instruments
  • Assist with patient scheduling
  • Assist with training other staff on Ophthalmic diagnostic instruments
