Parks Maintainer (Full Time)
PAY RATE $15.17 – $21.62/hour dependent on experience
SCHEDULE Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
POSITION SUMMARY: This position maintains the parks, community pool, and public facilities within the Borough. Work includes but is not limited to various maintenance tasks for parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, community pool, landscaped areas, community center, and public buildings. It also includes but is not limited to light automotive equipment maintenance and servicing of equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions may include the customary duties and responsibilities noted herein, however, the information below is not an exhaustive list of duties and instead serves as a representative sample of the expectations of the position.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks using hand tools in the cleaning and restoring of park areas and public buildings, including but not limited to cleaning public restrooms, removing trash and litter at public parks and facilities, removing brush and dead trees, maintaining flower beds and other planted areas, trimming hedges, pool maintenance, leaf pick-up, snow removal and salting, painting, light electrical, carpentry, and plumbing work, etc.
- Operate tractors, lawn mowers and power equipment, snow blowers, stump cutter, leaf vacuum, and dump truck for parks and recreation operations; plow snow; haul materials; tow gang mowers, rollers and rakes for athletic field preparation, cleaning, or landscaping purposes.
- Repair parks and recreation equipment such as benches and picnic tables; line ball fields and prepare fields and courts for sporting events.
- Perform minor building maintenance and repairs.
- Respond to emergency situations in all types of weather conditions; may be required to participate in the established call-out rotation with other field operations staff to assist during snow and ice events.
- Perform related work, assist other departments and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES: Theideal candidate should possess the following:
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently. Knowledge of the capability, limitation, and hazard of operating any assigned equipment.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and the ability to do basic plumbing, carpentry, and/oor electrical maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques involved in landscaping, athletic field maintenance, building and pool maintenance.
- Ability to operate light automotive equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to do physical manual work, sometimes in unfavorable weather conditions.
- Understanding of snow and ice control operations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and carefully.
- Ability to present a positive image and attitude on a daily basis.
- Desire and ability to learn new skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users of parks and recreation facilities and with fellow employees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA: An equivalent combination of credentials and experience to sufficiently perform the duties of the position may be considered:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license.
- Must obtain pesticide license within 1 year of hire.
- Experience performing outdoor lawn maintenance, snow removal, and use of related tools and equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described
below are representative of those required for the position.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather conditions.
- Walking, standing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Use hands to handle, grasp, and write; see and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to use body to work, move or carry objects or materials.
