Chemist Intern

R&D projects in the weatherproofing industry may include formulation and physical property testing or test method development of coatings, adhesives, sealants, water/weather proofing, and asphalt systems. The goal is to enable interns to make a meaningful impact through new product development, quality improvement, sustainability, process optimization, or fundamental research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and research project background and status with a mentor
• Make novel observations
• Collect and interpret data
• Draw sound conclusions based on data analysis
• Summarize work and write standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Present project reviews before colleagues and peers
• Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, ASTM tests, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage several projects at one time
• Junior or senior enrolled in an accredited four-year institution
• Minimum 3.0 GPA required
• Major in chemistry, polymer science, or materials science
• Previous internship experience a plus
