POSITION:                Anticipated Culinary Arts Teacher - 2025-2026 School Year

 

 

BUILDING:                  Carlisle High School

 

Responsible for teaching task-based learning to high school students in grades 10-12 in Culinary Arts. The teacher is responsible for teaching students the Competency Task List for Institutional Food Worker CIP 12.0508. The teacher will arrange and accompany culinary students on post-secondary, business, and industry field trips. In addition, the culinary teacher will be responsible for staying connected with local business and industry by working with an Occupational Advisory Committee who advise the teacher on the current culinary technology and training, and regional employment needs in the culinary field. The teacher will be responsible for working with his or her students to complete industry approved certifications specific to the culinary program CIP. The teacher will be responsible for maintaining our School’s American Culinary Federation certification. The teacher must ensure compliance with all Career and Technical Chapter 339 regulations for the Institutional Food Worker Program CIP 12.0508. Teacher is responsible for preparing students to take the 5-year Serve Safe Manager Certification and the NOCTI end of program assessment Culinary Arts Cook (NOCTI-ACF), 4536. 

 

Program description:  This program is aligned with Pennsylvania's CIP 12.0508 standards.

A program that prepares individuals in production and service used in governmental, commercial or independently owned institutional food establishments and related food industry occupations. Includes Instruction in selecting, storing, preparing and serving food and food products; basic nutrition; sanitation, and food safety; the use and care of commercial equipment; serving techniques; and the operation of institutional food establishments.

This program has three levels, I, II, and III. We have a functioning Café that hosts community luncheons one time per month, special in-house events, Craft Show, and other events approved by the teacher and Director of CTC.

This program also has a culinary paraprofessional who provides instructional support to career and technical education students in the Culinary Arts Program. This person works on the baking side under the direction of the teacher and helps reinforce student skills and with events in the café.

 

Requirements to teach this program:

To teach this program you must have the following certification Family & Consumer Sciences 5600 and need to take the Occupational Competency Assessment for Institutional Food Workers.

or

Industry professionals can pursue a Career and Technical/Instructional 2600 certification by meeting the following criteria: To complete this pathway, you need to meet the following requirements:

(1) Acceptable evidence of four years wage-earning experience in the occupation to be taught;

(2) Been accepted for enrollment in a State-approved career and technical teacher preparation program (Center) at one of the universities listed on page 7 of the OCA Guide;

(3) Passed the appropriate occupational competency examination, or evaluation of credentials written and performance examinations do not exist;

(4) Been recommended for the Career and Technical Intern Certificate by the university at which they are enrolled or accepted; and,

(5) Met all other requirements provided by law (School Code 1209 and Title 22, Pa.Code, Section 49.12). See OCA Guide

Notes: Any persons holding an instructional certification must add the OCA for Institutional Food Workers to their teaching certification.

The following instructional certificate remains valid for teaching in this program; however, is still subject to the note above: Home Economics 5605
