What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Assembler position at Carlisle Interconnect Technologies?

SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, the Electrical Assembler is responsible for performing simple cable assembly operations to build high-quality coax cables and wire harness products for the aerospace industry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Builds simple point-to-point cables following drawings and instructions to a high level of quality and productivity.
  • Demonstrates proper use of basic hand tools: heat gun, hand crimpers, power screwdriver, solder pot, ruler, and other machines such as pinning machines and automatic wire strippers.
  • Identifies wires with use of basic color code sequence.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork relating to the building of assemblies.
  • Makes sure that workstation is clean, organized, and free of hazardous materials.
  • Maintains clean, organized work environment and adheres to all factory safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort in a collaborative and supportive manner.
  • Participate in first production runs of new products.
  • Responsible for tool inventory.
  • Able to perform back shell installation, crimp, strip, jacket removal, connector loading, lace-tie, solder (to required customer specification), Solder sleeves, install various types of heat shrink, tubing, and woven braid.
  • Utilize hand tools and automated machines and components in conjunction with customer drawings, parts list, bill of materials, wire diagrams, schematics, tables, and work instructions.
Level II includes all duties listed above in addition to:
  • Assists with first article and/or NPI assemblies as needed.
  • Demonstrates a high level of creativity; continuously looks for ways to increase quality and efficiency.
  • Interfaces with engineers as required.
Level III includes all duties listed above in addition to:
  • Builds simple to advanced cable assemblies, wire harnesses and integrated rack assemblies.
  • Assists in the training and development of other assemblers as needed.
  • Provides back-up for leads or supervisors as needed.

JOB SKILLS
  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, read blueprints, drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to measure accurately using a ruler or tape measure.
  • Ruler reading/tape measurements reading fractional and decimal.
  • Basic math adding and subtracting decimal and fractional expressions.
  • Ability to build cables and wire harnesses using manufacturing instructions, while meeting all workmanship standards
  • Writing skills required to complete documents and forms.
  • Understanding and experience in Lean manufacturing environment. Participate in 5S related performance teams.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably in a fast paced, constantly changing and ambiguous environment while maintaining a positive team environment.
  • Reliable and flexible to work additional hours on short notice to complete orders and/or special projects to meet customer demands.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.
Level I: 0-1 years of experience: Entry Level. High school diploma or GED. No experience required, prefer six (6) months of related experience. Considered a developing professional within the field.
Level II: 1-2 years of experience. High school diploma or GED and one (1) years of experience in related field. Considered a seasoned professional that needs little direction or guidance.
Level III - 2 years of experience. High school diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of experience. Considered an industry expert within the field with little to no guidance needed.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Following certifications/classes must be completed within 6 months of hire with a passing score.
  • IPC Wire and Cable Fundamentals
  • Crimping Fundamentals
  • Basic Soldering
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620B Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harnesses
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS Certification (All modules)
  • J-STD-001 CIS Certification (All modules)
  • IPC-WHMA-A-620, IPC-JSTD-001, IPC-610, IPC-600 and NASA 8739
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Carlisle IT Franklin is a clean facility housing different kinds of machinery, equipment, processes, and chemicals which produce potential hazards in the work environment such as: ergonomic, chemical, machine point of operation, and powered industrial vehicle traffic. These hazards are controlled through means of engineering controls, such as machine guarding, and administrative controls, such as safety policies and programs. In certain areas of the facility, employees are required to wear Personal Protective equipment such as Hearing Protection, Safety Glasses, Safety Toe Shoes, and hand protection.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toed shoes in specific manufacturing areas
  • Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety rated glasses
  • Hearing protection in specific manufacturing areas
  • Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas
