Teacher - Spanish

1. Bilingual endorsement, if assigned to a bilingual setting.

GENERAL SUPERVISOR:  Superintendent

JOB GOAL:                      To motive each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in orally comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language, in accordance with each pupil’s ability to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in communicating in Spanish.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teach skills and knowledge in Spanish instruction to Middle and High School pupils, utilizing the curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Modern Spanish teachers teach oral comprehensive, speaking reading and writing.

1. Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

1. Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.

1. Provide learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.

1. Provide individualize and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

1. Instruct pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction. Make minor adjustments and request repairs as required.

1. Develop pupil understanding and appreciation of culture and countries where the studied language is spoken.

1. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

1. Evaluate each pupil’s progress in oral comprehensive, speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language in relationship to the level being taught.

1. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, supplies, and maintain required inventory records.

1. Communicate with parents bi-weekly, monthly or sooner as the need arises, on student’s progress and behavior.

1. Identify pupils needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

1. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.

1. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs and implements EPSS.

1. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in an out of school activities.

1. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.

1. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities, such as Spanish language workshops.

1. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.

1. Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.

1. Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.

1. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.

1. Perform all other assigned tasks required of the supervisor(s).

Salary : $52,500 - $79,619
