GED Tutor
We are searching for a GED Tutor who will work with the GED team to support adult learners in developing the skills necessary to pass the GED exam. This role requires strong subject area knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners. The tutor will provide instruction in all subject areas covered by the GED test, offer guidance on study techniques, and motivate students to achieve their educational goals. For example, a successful GED in English Tutor can work with students to develop mathematical reasoning skills and to write extended responses for the RLA exam.
Responsibilities:
• GED tutors help students become independent learners of all GED subjects by assisting with developing their critical thinking skills and elevating their confidence and ability to solve problems independently.
• Provide in-person and virtual individualized or group instruction in Mathematical Reasoning and reasoning through Language Arts, Science, and/or Social Studies based on GED standards.
• Break down complex concepts and make them accessible to learners at various levels.
• Prepare and present engaging lessons that align with GED curriculum standards.
• Assist students with test-taking strategies, time management, and critical thinking.
• Assess students' current academic skills and create customized learning plans.
• Monitor student progress through regular assessments and feedback. Communicate progress with both the student and the teacher.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
• Encourage and motivate students to persevere through challenges and stay committed to their education goals.
• Support teachers in preparing for the start of each semester and in closing out each semester, including administering pretests at the beginning and end of each semester.
• Serve as a substitute when teachers are unable to be in the classroom by using their emergency sub plans.
• Participate in all bi-weekly GED in English cohort meetings and regular check-ins with the Program Coordinator and/or supervising Assistant Principal.
• Participate in tutor training and professional development sessions.
• Stay current on GED testing updates and adult education best practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience tutoring or teaching, particularly in adult education or GED preparation.
• Strong knowledge in at least one GED subject area (Language Arts, Science, Social Studies).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop lesson plans and adapt to individual learning styles.
• Patience, flexibility, and a supportive teaching approach.
• Familiarity with educational technology and resources used in GED instruction
• Must be able to provide proof of completed Covid-19 vaccination

Schedule: Hybrid Shift
• Mon-Wed IN PERSON 5:30 PM-8:30 PM
• Thu VIRTUAL 5:30-8:30 PM.g
• Note: Professional development days are usually in person. The first two weeks and the last two weeks of each semester are also all in-person classes.
Salary ranges from $42,435.00 to $70,310.00 per year based on our Faculty scale.
